I’ve studied a lot of things and collected a lot of degrees, even managed to earn a PhD along the way. The universe may be full of things to fascinate and charm, but it can’t compare to fiction. Despite what you may have heard, real life plays a rather slow predictable game. It follows rules.

Fiction, on the other hand, frolics about without a care to its name, ignorant of all constraints. It is ever ready to turn the smallest bit of speculation—a simple nod to imagination, to what science or history says is almost possible—into stories of worlds changing fundamentally and all at once. Stories of wonder. Unexpected stories that frighten but also entertain, that tell people something about the universe and their place in it, that make them think.
